More News from the World Where Truth No Longer is Tolerated

I must confess that there are days when I just shake my head in unbelief over some of the things happening around us.  I will never cease to be amazed at the utter foolishness of people and the mindless decisions that are reached.  Here is an example: In an article written by Thomas Gallatin and posted at: www.patriotpost.us/articles/65199-ca-court-overturns-conviction-against-steinle-killer, I was shocked at what I read.  "If there wasn't already more than enough insult added to injury in the sad case of the death of Kate Steinle at the hands of a five-time deported illegal-alien felon, a California appeals court on Friday overturned the lone conviction against her killer.  In the cast against Mexican national Jose Ines Garcia-Zarate, the First District Court of Appeals overturned his felony possession of a weapon conviction on a seeming technicality.  In its decision, the court noted that the trial judge failed to give the jury 'the momentary possession instruction.'  The court explained, 'It is undisputed that defendant was holding the gun when it fired.  But that fact alone does not establish he possessed the gun for more than a moment.  To possess the gun, defendant had to knew he was holding it.'"  Let's see if I get this straight!  The shooter has a gun in his hand, but, according to the court, he might not know he has the gun in his hand.  So, if the gun discharges and kills someone while the shooter is in that moment of "not knowing he has a gun in his hand," then technically, he did not fire the gun?

Mr. Gallatin continues: "So, as things currently stand, all charges surrounding the Steinle's death have been either dismissed or overturned.  Even the Steinles' civil suit against the city of San Francisco for its 'sanctuary city' laws, which directly led to Garcia-Zarate being released rather than detained for immigration authorities, was dismissed earlier this year.  Upon hearing the news, acting U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Ken Cuccinelli responded: "Kate Steinle was tragically killed because San Francisco proudly proclaims itself a sanctuary city.  How many more innocents will die [before] sanctuary cities stop harboring violent criminals?  This defies common sense, public safety, [and] human decency.'  The good news is, while California has failed to hold Garcia-Zarate accountable, he is still in custody facing federal charges for possessing a firearm and being in the U.S. illegally.  That trial is scheduled to begin in January."

Then this morning I was reading on Fox News that yesterday, California Governor Gavin Newsom, signed a bill that no longer requires any 'able-bodied person 18 years of age or older' in the state to help an officer who requests assistance during an arrest.  I read this and just scratched my head, again in unbelief.  I guess that in California it is best to be on the side of the criminal than on the side of the law.

Are you ready for one more act of near insanity.  This is from an article written by Todd Starnes and found at: www.patriotpost/us/opinion/64975-white-school-teachers-told-people-of-color-cannot-be-racist.  "Only white people can be racist, according to a presentation delivered to public-school teachers in Chattanooga, Tennessee. ...  The Tennessee Star reports that the presentation on white privilege included a number of jaw-dropping claims:
  • People of color cannot be racist because they lack the institutional power to adversely affect white lives.
  • Even if minorities sometimes complain about whites, such complaints serve as coping mechanisms to withstand racism rather than actual anti-white bias.
  • Even when minorities express or practice prejudice against whites they are not racists.
  • White privilege is both a legacy and a cause of racism.
  • White privilege exists because of historic, enduring racism and biases.

Rhonda Thurman, a member of the Hamilton County School Board, related that several teachers were outraged.  "'A lot of teachers were upset about it.  This was just a few days before school started.  Teachers need to be working in their classroom but instead they had to sit through this presentation,' she said.  Thurman said the school district's training session is 'planting the seeds of bitterness and division in these fertile minds of these kids. ... The [training] said if [students] showed any kind of animosity toward a white person it was usually just a coping mechanism.  So, I wonder how the teachers feel about that?  That [students] can criticize their teacher any way that they want to and it's just looked at as a coping mechanism for them for racism.  It's a fair question. ... What does this have to do with student achievement, number one, which is what we're supposed to be about. ...  I wondered how it made the white teachers in attendance feel to know that they were going to go into a classroom where 90% of the students were going to think that they were racist before they ever taught the first day.'"  I am grateful for those school board members who boldly take a stand for what is right.  May they be blessed and may their number grow.

Let me see if I understand what was said in that teacher assembly there in Tennessee: Because I am a white male (right there I am doubly cursed), and I might add a white male who is heterosexual and a follower of Jesus Christ (ok, now I am fully condemned), I am instantly seen as being racist.  Anything I say will be viewed through that lens by someone else.  That person does not need to know me, but just concludes that because my skin color is white that I am a racist.  But, if someone who is of a different race than I am, says something about me and my race, then that is not being racist but just using a coping mechanism.  It seems to me that this is a double-standard.  According to what was said in Tennessee, minorities cannot be racist.  If that is true, what happens when the white Americans become the minority race here in our nation.  Will that mean that we suddenly will be viewed as being nonracist?  I highly doubt that !

Oh the hatred and vitriol being spewed today.  Oh the divisions that continue to widen.  Daily we hear hate-filled speech from our political leaders.  Daily we read hate-filled words from media reporters.  People are constantly being torn down because their viewpoints do not identify with those of someone else.  Hate has replaced love.  Opinion has replaced truth.  Should I be shaking my head in unbelief?  No, because what is happening is a direct consequence of the absence of truth and love.
